  1. As a most-of-my-adult-life fan of KANSAS and Kerry Livgren’s solo work, I’m always happy to see them receive well earned attention.

    🌾🌾( Wheatheads Unite!!!) 🌾🌾

I had listened to the first three albums (“KANSAS”, “SONG for AMERICA, and “Masque”) fairly often in the mix of Rock and Prog that was constantly on the turntable (Google it, young’uns) at the”band house”, a.k.a., the semi-abandoned warehouse our keyboard player’s Dad owned that some of my bandmates and I inhabited/practiced in for most of the 70’s.
I didn’t see Kansas live until the Lexington, KY stop of the “Leftoverture” tour.
I was enjoying the show immensely, for sure, but, I noticed a guy sitting a couple of rows below me. He wasn’t really looking towards the stage and he had his head kinda bent down. He seemed to be talking to himself, and as I looked a little closer, I realized that he was singing the lyrics to the song that they were playing!
He did that for most of the show, and I wasn’t sure why he was doing it. So I didn’t think much more about it…
    But…
    As the show went on…
It became clearer to me that there was more going on here than just yer average rock show.🧐

This was an amazing experience that drew me into
    “The State of Kansas®️”
as Robbie Steinhardt (RIP 😢) always announced at the beginning of the show.
They showed me how powerful music, expertly crafted and presented by talented, passionate musicians could transport my spirit to a place of joy in my soul that I had not experienced before. (Until I joined up with Jesus, of course)
I, too, became one of those who sang along and let the music flow into and through my heart and mind, giving to the band the energy that Robbie also asked for at every show. (I saw 4 more shows before Kerry and Dave Hope left the band.)

More and more, Kerry’s lyrics spoke to me and echoed my own questions about life and God.
I found that his journey seemed to parallel mine in some ways.
We both wandered through the “spiritual” smorgasbord that was the 70’s and 80’s. Taking a taste of this and a swig of that, but not feeling satisfied by the emptiness of it all.
Even after I accepted Jesus in my life, I wasn’t sure if I could keep my end of the deal. I was thinking about that one day as I was cruising along listening to “Crossfire”, the last song on the “Vinyl Confessions” album, when I heard, quite clearly, these lines :

‘And deep within the hardest heart,
there is something there that knows.
There’s a hunger you can never fill,
Till you thank the One who rose’.
    🤯❤️‍🔥✝️
    Game. Set. Match. 😁

    God Bless y’all and Maranatha☝️
